Description
Following on from the author's previous published account of the 10th Panzer Division, this unit history continues the study of its battles, now moving to Russia in 1941 and later, to North Africa. Having seen significant combat in first Poland and then France, the division was sent east once again, this time to participate in Operation Barbarossa.  After its initial battles against the Red Army including the drive on Moscow in December of 1941 as part of the panzer force assigned to Army Group Center, the division was withdrawn from Russia and refitted in France during 1942. It was stationed near Dieppe when the ill-fated raid occurred in August 1942, though it had little direct involvement.  Once rebuilt, instead of returning to the Eastern Front, at the end of November 1942 it was sent to Tunisia to oppose Operation Torch, the Allied landings in North Africa. Arriving piecemeal, it fought in Tunisia against both US and British armies until the German forces there surrendered in May 1943. For reasons never fully explained, the 10. Panzer-Division was not re-established, and so its impressive history ended prematurely, with its last battle of note taking place at Kasserine Pass. As with the companion volume, this account includes both command level descriptions of the movements and fighting of the division's panzers as well as personal small unit accounts.
