Description
The T&T Clark Handbook of the Doctrine of Providence offers an extensive exposition of, and critical engagement with, the Christian doctrine of providence. Drawing together scholars from numerous theological disciplines, traditions, and cultural contexts, it examines one of Christian theology's most pervasive and debated doctrines in order both to introduce the subject to an emerging generation of thinkers as well as to recommend further constructive work on providence as essential to the work of contemporary theology. Essays in this volume are written by a diverse collection of scholars who together explore the doctrine from a variety of angles, including its ancient and biblical roots, its place in the history of Christian thought, its dogmatic function and potential, its relation to ethics and its role and influence in philosophical theology. In addition to expositional and systematic material, the volume also provides critical commentary on classical doctrines of providence from the perspective of contextual theology, process theology, and contemporary philosophy.
